My Trip to Kentucky

My mom, Jenna, and I went to visit Lianne and Mike in Kentucky over the Halloween weekend.  Here are some pics to show what a good time we had.

Right after Mike picked us up from the airport we went to the Keeneland race track. If you're in Kentucky you gotta go look at a race track. It was large.

Lianne was on call the first night we got there so we went to see her and see her hospital.

Kentucky isn't too far south...but south enough - this is a nice shiny hubcab being held on the old rusty rim with zip ties...very nice.

Just so ya know...no guns were allowed in this restaurant.

This is the Henry Clay estate. Henry Clay was "Kentucky's favorite son". (thats what the tour guide told us.) His house was built around 1850 - it was cool.

The girls are examining a walnut.

I love this picture.

Lianne was in a little fender bender before we got there (not her fault). Her poor little CRV. Lianne hadn't actually opened this door since the accident so we were climbing in and out to avoid using the door. But one night Lianne and mom went to pick up chinese and when they got to the restaurant Lianne told my mom to just jump out and grab the food - so she did. I guess it made an awful screachy noise but did shut again - so its all okay.

These are the kids of some of Mike and Lianne's friends. Very cute.

We went to the Woodford Reserve Bourbon Distillery (a very Kentucky thing to do) and went on the tour and got to sample their bourbon.

Giant vat of fermenting bourbon
.

The bourbon smells really good! Woody with hints of caramel and vanilla.

But it burns a bit.

Me no likey bourbon.

Kentucky countryside

One lane tunnel through a mountain.

We drove to the mountains and hiked up to the natural bridge. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_Bridge_State_Resort_Park

We are actually sitting on the natural bridge right now.

This is the bridge! We were on it!

This trail is called "Devil's Gultch" it was quite steep. By the time we were at the bottom we all had jibbely legs.

I guess Murray likes to eat socks...wow.

Before we left for the airport to head back home Lianne made us a giant panacooken (spelling?) A German pancake. Very good!
